This CD-ROM contains all essential information regarding Ethernet interfaces. It includes a collection of data sheets for dedicated Ethernet interface ICs from many different manufacturers.
There are various ways to incorporate an Ethernet interface in a microcontroller circuit, such as:
- Adding an Ethernet controller to an existing circuit. We have selected non-PCI controllers for this purpose.
- Using a microcontroller with an integrated Ethernet interface in the basic design. Here we have limited ourselves to 8-bit and 16-bit microcontrollers, since 32-bit devices can hardly be classified as controllers.
- Adding a serial-to-Ethernet converter to an existing circuit that has a serial interface. You can choose from a large variety of converters.
- Using a card with an Ethernet interface, such as a micro webserver.
To help you with your own projects, the CD-ROM provides a wealth of information about connectors and components for the physical layer (PHY) and specific software tools for use with the Ethernet (Software).
