Evan Caught a Bigness in a Box

Evan has always wondered why.

Why do elbows itch? Why do people laugh? Why do they cry?

One day, determined to catch an answer, he builds a trap and baits it with a single question, "Why?"

To his surprise, he catches not an answer, but a Bigness.

Inside the box are stars and shadows, beginnings and endings, songs and sadness; all tangled together in ways that don't seem to make sense. As Evan tries to sort it all out, he discovers only more fuel for his curiosity and wonder.

Evan Caught a Bigness in a Box is a whimsical and thought-provoking picture book about curiosity, wonder, and the questions that shape how we see the world. Through imaginative storytelling and richly illustrated scenes, young readers are invited to explore life's mysteries alongside a child who simply cannot stop asking "Why?". Gentle, playful, and heartfelt, this story celebrates the joy of wondering and the surprising connections that can be found in even the biggest questions.

Born and raised in Western Kentucky, Chad Young has been writing poetry and stories since he was a child, finding inspiration in nature, philosophy, and the wonder of everyday life. He wrote "Evan Caught a Bigness in a Box" for his nephew, Evan, whose diagnosis with Alagille syndrome became the inspiration for a story celebrating curiosity, resilience, and the boundless imagination of childhood. Through imagination, humor, and heart, Chad hopes to encourage children to ask big questions, embrace life's mysteries, and discover the beauty that can be found in every moment.
