This important romantic poem tells the story of the Acadian girl Evangeline, who seeks her lost love Gabriel, during the Expulsion of the Acadians. Profusely illustrated with forty-five engravings on wood, from designs by prominent Victorian illustrators, Birket Foster, Jane E. Benham and John Gilbert. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's original gilt-decorated cloth. Externally, excellent, with minor bumping to the extremities. Front hinge is a little strained, but holding firm. Internally, binding is a touch strained after page viii, otherwise firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with spotting to the first and last few pages only. Very Good Indeed.
