Everyday Lab Math

Have you ever mixed a skincare serum or measured ingredients for a science project and wondered if you were doing real chemistry?

You are.

Everyday Lab Math is the comic-style, no-gatekeeping guide to the real math behind real science. Whether working in a lab, mixing buffers at your bench, or blending a serum at your kitchen counter, this book will help you understand, calculate, and create confidently.

Written by molecular geneticist and science educator Dr. Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio, this visual and accessible book makes intimidating concepts like molarity and pH feel clear, doable, and even fun.

Inside, you'll master the math behind:

• Molarity, dilutions, and molality
• Acids, bases, and buffer prep
• Percent solutions and osmolarity
• Normality and equivalent weight

Perfect for:

• STEM students and teachers
• DIY skincare formulators and makers
• Citizen scientists and science communicators
• Anyone who thought math wasn't for them

Everyday Lab Math isn't a textbook; it's your hands-on, illustrated guide to science that you can actually use. With fun visuals, practical tips, and nerdy flair, this book makes chemistry human, relevant, and yours.

Dr. Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio is a molecular geneticist, science educator, author, and explorer whose work spans astrobiology, soil microbiology, and Alzheimer's disease research. She earned her Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology and studies life in extreme environments, from Arctic tundra to volcanic caves, while advocating for science accessibility and citizen engagement. She co-founded STEAM Superheroes, a nonprofit that uses comics and real-world research to inspire underrepresented youth in STEM. Her bilingual children's book, Gigi & Nema: Guardians of the Soil, introduces young readers to soil health, sustainability, and Puerto Rican heritage through a science-forward lens.Dr. Gonzalez leads outreach with the International Institute of Astronautical Sciences and contributes to public science missions with NASA Socials and The Explorers Club. Her educational approach combines storytelling, hands-on discovery, and advocacy for neurodiverse and first-generation learners.Author website: draidylgonzalez.com
