Evolution of The Club and Juke Joints In America: A Social Renaissance

As the title implies, Evolution of The Club and Juke Joints in America: A Social Renaissance by Reginald B. Hayes unveils the importance of nightlife to the cornerstone of hip happenings and community camaraderie. From Southern juke joints to Northern nightclubs and every jiving place in between, this nonfiction takes a walk down memory lane and lets the good times roll. With a decidedly robust and playful tone, this treatise is a strong cocktail-shaken, not stirred-that is as entertaining as it is insightful. With chapter titles such as "Getting to the Club on Time and What to Wear," "Patron Personalities," "Pour Me a Drink," and "The Neighborhood," nostalgia is front and center with the pulse of the twenty-first century not far behind. From the good old days to alcohol-free teen venues, the author covers the gamut of what proprietors offered yesterday and today in the way of drinking, dancing, and making merry.

A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Reginald B. Hayes received his master’s in public administration from California State University at Hayward.
