Evolution (Discovery Channel School Science)

How did it happen? How did one species eventually give rise to millions of others and so many different kinds? Discover how some species are better equipped than others to deal with the challenges of existence, and how these beings have thrived, while others have not.

Grade 5-7-A fast, furious, and ultimately confusing trip through a millennia-long process. Starting with a brief explanation of evolution, this book races through an "interview" with a giraffe, a look at the elephant's evolutionary family tree, the "artificial selection" of the dog, Charles Darwin and the voyage of the Beagle, the Scopes trial, etc. Interspersed are color photos, diagrams, illustrations, maps, and several "investigations" to attempt and quick flashes of factoids in colorful boxes. Skip this one, and stick with Linda Gamlin's fact-filled Evolution (DK, 1993) or Stephen Webster's The Kingfisher Book of Evolution (Kingfisher, 2000).
