Burton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of zoology at the University of Chicago and professor emeritus of genetics at the University of Wisconsin. He has received the National Medal of Science, the Darwin Medal of the Royal Society, the Balzan Prize, and many other honors during his extraordinary career.
