Black cloth with orange frame to front, orange lettering and decoration to spine. Spine slightly sunned and corners a little bumped. Binding strong. Ex-libris bookplate of Edward Sutton to front pastedown. Several small marks and light tanning to endpapers. Frontispiece b/w painting reproduction. Frame to title page, which is slightly foxed. 160pp., b/w plates. Tanning to final page (index). Ownership address to rear pastedown. Contents clean and bright. Francis Vane Phipson Rutter (17 February 1876 18 April 1937) was a British art critic, curator and activist. In 1903, he became art critic for The Sunday Times, a position which he held for the rest of his life. He was an early champion in England of modern art, founding the French Impressionist Fund in 1905 to buy work for the national collection, and in 1908 starting the Allied Artists Association to show "progressive" art, as well as publishing its journal, Art News, the "First Art Newspaper in the United Kingdom". Cloth. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Black cloth binding with orange border design on the front cover and orange print on spine. There is a name printed on the top of the front end paper. There are some scattered soil spots in the text and some pages with wrinkles. The front hinge is cracked and the binding is cracked in a few other places, but I did not see any loose or missing pages. The cover has some light cloth bleach spots on the top back.
