This two volume travelogue by Robert Bremner provides a detailed account of his travels through the Russian Empire during the reign of Nicholas I. The narrative combines geographical observations with political commentary, offering a British perspective on the social hierarchy, military organisation, and administrative policies of the period. With focused chapters on the conditions of Russian peasantry, food of all social orders and notes on Russian prisons Bremner provides a completely comprehensive and wide ranging account of Russian life in the mid 19th century. Very sought after book.

Very Good Condition. In original brown cloth with gilt titles to spine. Illustrated frontispiece for both volumes. Binding is firm and pages are lightly tanned. Pen marking to front end paper of Volume 2. Light pen marks to fore-edge and front end paper of volume 1. Boards are good with slight edge-wear. Minor shelf-wear. Some more notable tanning to spine.
