The Executive Discovery(tm): Practitioner Guide: Becoming an Executive Discovery Practitioner

The Executive Discovery(TM) Practitioner Guide is a practical methodology for leaders, consultants, coaches, board members, and organizational practitioners who want to improve the quality of decisions before action begins.

The guide shows practitioners how to:

- Ask better questions before rushing to solutions.

- Identify opportunities traditional decision-making processes overlook.

- Build trust and alignment among decision makers.

- Facilitate meaningful executive conversations.

- Create commitment before moving to action.

Rather than providing another leadership theory, this guide offers a structured approach to helping individuals and organizations discover their greatest opportunities before committing to a solution.

Discovery precedes decision.

Better discovery creates better decisions.

Better decisions create extraordinary organizations.

Edward C. Jarvis is an executive, entrepreneur, author, educator, and inventor who has served as an executive and corporate officer for both public and privately held corporations. Throughout his career, Ed has faced consequential decisions where the answer was rarely obvious at the beginning. Again and again, he found that the quality of a decision depended on something that happened first: discovery. Ed holds a B.A. from Bridgewater State University and an M.B.A. in International Business and Finance from Suffolk University, with advanced management studies at Dartmouth College. His academic career included serving as Founding Executive Director of Entrepreneurial Studies and Professor of Business at Suffolk University, and Executive in Residence at Bridgewater State University, where he worked with the next generation of business leaders. His professional experience spans General Electric, international business, entrepreneurship, turnarounds, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, technology, and organizational growth. He also invented and patented OneXcel(TM), an optically correct face shield designed to increase safety while allowing enhanced performance in helmeted sports. OneXcel(TM) was used in the NFL, NHL, NCAA, International Olympics, and skiing. He ultimately sold the corporation to Oakley, the nationally recognized public company. Ed is also a U.S. Coast Guard-credentialed Master Captain and instructor. Different worlds. Different challenges. Different decisions. Those experiences helped shape the thinking behind Executive Discovery. Executive Discovery was not created as an academic theory or management formula. It evolved from real situations where leaders had to make consequential decisions-and where discovering what was really happening could change the outcome. The lesson was simple: better decisions begin with better discovery. Through Shielded Vision Press and the Executive Discovery collection, Ed brings those experiences directly to readers and leaders-not as prescriptions, but as an invitation to ask better questions, uncover what may be missing, and make better decisions.
