Knowing the applications, advantages, and disadvantages of a wide range of resistance training exercises and equipment is crucial for anyone studying exercise science. Exercises for Resistance Training: A Practical Guide to Technique, Cueing, and Coaching explains how to use the resistance training equipment found in settings such as commercial gyms, rehabilitation centers, and sport performance facilities.
Understanding the technique needed to properly perform resistance training exercises is vital, but this resource goes a step further by teaching students how to coach, cue, and correct. By combining the technical information often found in other resources with the practical instruction skills needed in real-world settings, this text prepares readers to translate complex anatomy, detailed biomechanics, and proper technique into language that makes sense to the lifters they work with.
Each exercise description includes the following:
Principles for selecting the best exercises, along with notes about common errors and corrections, make this a great resource for both students and practitioners. Progressions, modifications, and variations for a wide range of exercises and equipment are included to ensure students and practitioners are ready to work with lifters of varying abilities and goals.
Prepare students to go beyond the classroom with Exercises for Resistance Training.

Her appointments in clinical hospital settings, collegiate strength and conditioning, and community health and fitness enable her to bridge the gap between classroom concepts and real-world application.
Her scholarship and professional contributions include coauthoring textbooks such as Exercise Physiology and Testing (2017), peer-reviewed research on resistance training and whole-body vibration, and multiple presentations at regional and national conferences. She has mentored over 30 undergraduate students and has also contributed as a grant team member for initiatives in inclusive STEM education and as an external reviewer for academic journals.
In addition to her PhD (Temple University), Tapp earned her undergraduate and Master’s degree from Florida State University (Exercise Physiology/Nutrition). Her professional certifications include Certified Exercise Physiologist (American College of Sports Medicine), CISSN-Certified Sports Nutritionist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (National Strength and Conditioning Association), and USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach, underscoring her expertise in bridging academic knowledge with applied performance training.
