Edward Albert Schäfer) (1850 - 1935) war von 1899 bis 1933 Professor für Physiologie an der Universität Edinburgh. Er erhilet 1924 die Copley Medal für seine wissenschaftlichen Verdienste. Sharpey-Schafer ist Erfinder der nach ihm benannten Schafer-Methode zur künstlichen Beatmung. Nach div. Quellen stammt die Namensnennung "Insulin" von Sharpey-Schafer.
