1924 first edition, Ediciones de 'La Lectura' (Madrid, Spain), 5 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches tall full leather bound, embossed gilt dentelles framing front and rear cover, five raised bands and gilt lettered red leather labels to spine, top page edges red, red ribbon marker sewn in, marbled endpapers, 368 pp. Slight rubbing and moderate to heavy edgewear to covers. Retired university library copy, with call number in white to spine, lined out stamps to top and bottom page edges, remainder from removed card pocket to front pastedown and free-endpaper, ink and blind (embossed) stamp to title page, lined-out stamps to the top margin of the first couple of pages. Otherwise, a clean, bright and unmarked first edition copy with a splendid shelf appearance. ~LL~ [1.5P] Francisco de Moncada (1586-1635) was a Spanish diplomat, soldier and writer of the early 17th century. He was also interim Governor of the Spanish Netherlands. This work about the Catalan Company, first published in Barcelona in 1623, gives an account of the followers of Roger de Flor in their cooperation and fighting the Byzantine Empire and later their capture of the Duchy of Athens.
