An Expeditious Method of Writing in Common Characters . Proved in the Composition of a Pleasing Tale [B. De Saint Pierre'S the Indian Cottage].

An Expeditious Method of Writing in Common Characters, penned by John Bennett, explores an innovative approach to handwriting, streamlining it for efficiency. This treatise is demonstrated through the composition of a "Pleasing Tale," identified as Bernardin de Saint-Pierre's popular work, "The Indian Cottage." Bennett's method aims to make writing faster and more accessible, reflecting the 18th-century interest in improving communication and literacy. This work provides a fascinating glimpse into the historical development of shorthand and simplified writing systems, showcasing early attempts to optimize written language. Scholars of linguistics, writing, and 18th-century literature will find this a valuable resource.
