A much-loved classic of Anglo-Irish comic fiction, Some Experiences of an Irish R.M. follows Major Sinclair Yeates, an English ex-army officer appointed Resident Magistrate in rural Ireland, as he collides with local customs, eccentric neighbours and chaotic hunting fields. First published in 1899, these stories by E. Oe. Somerville and Martin Ross helped define the Irish comic tradition and later inspired the popular television series The Irish R.M. This undated Thomas Nelson reprint, probably issued around 1938, presents the complete text in a handy format, in green paper-covered boards with gilt spine lettering and the original dustjacket. Some Experiences of an Irish R.M., by E. OE. Somerville and Martin Ross. Published by Thomas Nelson & Sons Ltd, London, Edinburgh, Paris, Melbourne, Toronto and New York. Undated, but likely to be c. 1938 (it is printed in similar style to another title we have from the same series, which has a 1938 date). Printed in Great Britain. Reprinted by permission of Messrs. Longmans, Green & Co., Ltd. A very good hardback with green paper over boards and gilt title to spine. Lightly bumped. With good intact original dustjacket with nibbles and wear to extremities. Not price-clipped. Soundly bound. Jacket now housed in protective, removable, clear plastic. Text is clean and bright throughout, with previous owner's name to first free endpaper - 'W.G. Cochrane'. Text in English. 377pp +(1) Publisher's list. Dimensions: approx 162mm high x 112mm wide x 26mm deep. Weight: approximately 307g (unpacked).…
