Synopsis
To conceive a child, Christine Crane undergoes an embryo implantation, unaware that the embryo has been genetically altered in an experiment—one funded by her own husband. The child, Daniel, seems normal at first. But the experiment has a serious consequence. Once past adolescence, Daniel manifests strange powers. Medical tests offer contradictory analyses that can be accounted for only by a form of autism. Soon at the workshop where was created, hang investigations of police. Meanwhile, a series of murders appears to be linked to Daniel's father, Harmond, whose fame and power grows with his oil company. Although his condition seems to doom Daniel to a premature death, he stands to inherit an oil empire from his father, and he places himself in the care of a doctor who seems to be the only one able to find a solution to his case. Nominated for a Nobel Prize for her synthesis of a drug to fight mental disorders, Diane Krueger is at first fascinated by Daniel’s high-profile case. She soon falls in love with him—yet her own quiet investigations lead her to discover a horrifying truth. Set in the world of genetic testing, Into the Experiment is a thriller that pushes the boundaries of the genre. This compelling story explores a world full of shadows and greed—a dark world where love is the only ray of light and, ultimately, life proves to be a force impossible to control completely.
About the Author
Hi All! My name is Lorraine Piper. I was born thirty-four years ago in Sussex. My father, Roger, and my mother, Abigail Anne, now live in Colorado with my two older brothers, Tyler and Grant. They run a small, family business together. Right after college, I chose instead to move permanently to England to start a new, completely independent life. I found my little corner of paradise in Southampton. While I was working as an archivist at an engineering firm, I started to write my first book. I love this work, the in-depth study of a text, and all that is research. Ultimately, there is not, and has never been, a simple state of inspiration for me. I let a remembering part of my mind do as it will, as it sees, feels, and meticulously reconstructs a view of the whole. I divide my time between writing and reading. I read everything, but I have a particular fondness for non-fiction. I lead a somewhat reclusive life. I take long walks with my Cocker Spaniel, Milla. I love sitting in front of the fireplace, alone or with others. I'm never apart from her. Her presence is essential for me on every trip. I have been following my vocation for only a few years. It is all new, exciting, and overwhelming. The allure of medical science led me to Into the Experiment, the first book that I have created and which I will follow up soon.
