Gwendolyn Audrey Foster is an award-winning experimental filmmaker and a prolific author. Foster is author of numerous books in the areas of film studies/cultural studies including her book Identity and Memory: The Films of Chantal Akerman and books on experimental filmmakers, as well as race, gender and class studies and film history. Foster's documentary on women filmmakers, The Women Who Made the Movies, is distributed by Women Make Movies Inc. Foster is Willa Cather Professor Emerita in film studies at University of Nebraska.
