Titelei-Verlust (Abriss), leichte Gbrsp. - Meltzer, (1851 - 1920), studierte in Königsberg und Berlin Meidzin unter Helmholtz, du Boois-Reymond, Kronecker und Virchow und promovierte 1882. Er wanderte 1883 in die USA aus und etablierte eine gutgehende Praxis in New York City. In Berlin hat er unter Kronecker am Mechanismus des Schluckens gearbeitet; in New York schloß er sich Welch's Laboratorium am Bellvue Hospital an, später dem College of Physician and Surgeons an der Columbia Universität und ab 1904 dem Rockefeller Institut. Meltzer gründete und war erster Präsident der Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (SEBM; 1903-1905), scherzhaft "Meltzer's Verein" genannt. 1908 war er auch Mitbegründer der American Society of Pharmocology and Experimental Therapeutics in Baltimore.
