About this Item

Folio. Pp. 739-42. Disbound. "Isolation of Bact. granulosis, believed by Noguchi to be the casual organism in trachoma [the infectious disease causing roughening of the innersurface of the eyelids]" (Garrison-Morton-Norman 5973). In 1911, Noguchi discovered the agent of syphilis as the cause of progressive paralytic disease. While at the Rockefeller Foundation, he was accused by fellow researcher Oskar Klotz of inoculating huge numbers of monkeys with yellow fever and failing to keep proper records. Many of his claims were unable to be reproduced, further questioning his reputation. Fine From the Collection of Allan B. Kirsner, M.D. Bookseller Inventory # 401927
