"Experimentation and Measurement in Religious Education" is a foundational exploration into the intersection of scientific methodology and spiritual instruction. Written by Goodwin B. Watson, this work addresses the growing need for rigorous, objective standards in evaluating the effectiveness of religious pedagogy and character-building programs. The text serves as a comprehensive guide for educators who seek to move beyond traditional anecdotal evidence, advocating instead for the application of empirical research and psychological testing within the church and Sunday school environment.

The book details various techniques for measuring knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral changes, providing a framework for diagnosing educational challenges and refining teaching strategies. Watson examines the theoretical and practical aspects of testing, offering insights into how data-driven approaches can be used to enhance spiritual development. By bridging the gap between the social sciences and religious practice, the work emphasizes the importance of validity, reliability, and ethical consideration in the assessment of moral growth.

This volume is a significant historical resource for those interested in the evolution of educational theory and the early 20th-century movement to professionalize religious training. It remains an essential reference for understanding the development of modern educational metrics and the ongoing dialogue between faith-based initiatives and scientific inquiry.
