Octavo. Priestley had become like Franklin, internationally known. He achieved wide-spread fame by the publication of a succession of volumes on the nature of air and the chemistry of gases, called Experiments and Observations on Different Kinds of Air (1774-1790). Oxygen and the production and use of soda water were perhaps his most universally acclaimed discoveries. Benjamin Franklin encouraged the work and assisted Priestley's History and Present State of Electricity (1766). This set allows the serious reader in the history of science to follow his study [the folding plates have also been reprinted at the beginning of each volume.
