Grade 3-6-- Broekel seems to have put leftovers from his more topical "New True" books here. Easy experiments using common materials answer a hodgepodge of questions about optical illusions, the strength of cylinders, air pressure, inertia, and flight. The explanations and glossary are clear and brief; younger children may need more explanation from adults for some of the concepts since the book lacks adequate diagrams. Attractive and easy to read, but not a first purchase. --Sally Bates Goodroe, Houston Public Library
