This book represents the best thinking of experts on every aspect of the game ... how they bid, play hands, defend, choose leads and decide when and when not to double. Special coverage is given also to team games, building successful partnerships and conventions most regularly used by experts. Finally, there is a designated self-study program to help you be the very best you can be. The unique things about this book are that:
(1) It is the first book in 40 years to deal with the entire game of bridge.
(2) It represents the modern thinking of today's experts who win national championships.
(3) It is especially well-organized and easy to read.
For these reasons the book received the "1997 Book of the Year" award from the American Bridge Teacher's Association and continues to be a best-seller at national tournaments.
In his youth, Burt Hall was selected to play with Charles Goren when the great master was playing with local talent at regional events. Because of other demands he retired from tournament bridge in his twenties. During the mid-1980's, three decades later, he returned to tournament bridge to find dramatic changes in the game and the literature much enriched. Not hindered by the past, he became a keen observer of the modern approach to bridge and the winning ways of the experts. Eventually, Burt formed a partnership with his present wife and favorite partner, Lynn Rose-Hall. They have established an enviable record and have amassed several thousand master points in local, regional and national events. They have also taught advanced bridge in the Washington, DC area, a course based on the winning ways of the experts. In this book they share those winning ways with you.
