Explanatio of an Ornamental Arch &c. in the Church of the Parish of Trent as represented an engraving designed for Collinson's History of Somersetshire. (Trent, England): 1793. Folio. Original stiff marbled wrappers. Title page, leaves, engraved plates tipped on a frontispiece; 1 full page ink & wash facsimile. A copy, but a copy of a manuscript, "Transcribed from one in the possession o the Revd. John Williams of Marston Magna" according to a note at the end. Inscribed inside the front cover: "Alfred Seymour, Mann House, Trent, No. 2, copy of No. 1." Beaver was the rector of Trent; three of his sermons were published in Sherborne between 1795 and 1800. His detailed analysis of the arch, with the text and footnotes on facing pages, corrects Colllinson in det and deals at length with various monuments in the church. It is inspired by restoration of the arch by the Earl of Egremont (whose family vault adjoins t arch) and Henry Seymour, Lord of the Manor, in 1792, from whose library this seems to have come. It is not possible to determine whether Beaver intended work to be published. It seems most likely that a few copies were made for local antiquaries and landowners, and no record exists of its publication. Seller Inventory # 39190
