Stout octavo, modern half calf antique style, lightly and uniformly embrowned, minor foxing, very fine, and complete with the famed frontispiece portrait, here placed following the title. Richardson is positioned in the midst of a cluster of editors and commentators of the early 1730 and 1740 period, including Bentley, Pearce and Peck. In the course of his research, Richardson discovered hitherto unknown facts about Milton's life, which are incorporated in this comprehensive work, which is the most substantial (over 500 pages) to appear to this date. Coleridge 396; not in Kohler. The first and only edition.
