Exploring Criminal Justice in Canada

Drawing on case studies, media issues, and controversies, Exploring Criminal Justice in Canada critically examines the organization and function of the criminal justice system and the individuals, social values, and legal systems that shape these institutions.

Dr. Rick Ruddell is the Law Foundation of Saskatchewan Chair in Police Studies and a professor in the Department of Justice Studies at the University of Regina. Prior to this appointment he served as Director of Operational Research with the Correctional Service of Canada, and held faculty positions at Eastern Kentucky University and the California State University. Before moving into academics, he served with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, as a supervisor and manager. Dr. Ruddell's research has focused on policing, criminal justice policy, and juvenile justice. He has published over 95 peer reviewed articles, technical reports, encyclopedia entries, and articles in professional journals, and written, edited, or co-authored ten books, including Do the Crime, Do the Time: Juvenile Criminals in the American Court System (Praeger, 2012), and Making Sense of Criminal Justice: Policies and Practices, second edition (Oxford University Press US, 2014).
