In this extremely thoughtful, well-written volume, Watkin takes the student from sketches through intermediate stages to the final image, with specific lessons in reflected light, perspective, feathering, and pointillism. An exhibitor with the Royal Society of British Artists, he accompanies each chapter with apt quotations from the likes of John Keats and John Masefield. Highly recommended for all but the complete beginner.
