About this title

The author describes his eighteen-month journey up the Yangtze in search of its source, and shares his impressions of the land and people along the way

From Library Journal:

This is a National Geographic-style presentation of the travels of photographer and explorer Wong, who led several expeditions through China in the 1980s to trace the Yangtze river to its sources, which had not yet been fully mapped. The impressionistic text recounts a selection of incidents from Wong's travels, while three-quarters of the book is given over to photos with brief captions. Overall, the effect is somewhat insubstantial, with only a sketchy account of theregion or the expeditions emerging. Nevertheless, the striking photographs, many exotic to Western eyes, will appeal to general readers and interested laypersons, while the geographical data may be useful to specialists.
