Reviews
The contemporary trend to present ethnoart as aesthetically beautiful objects, art masterpieces rather than artifacts of "tribal life," is exemplified by this catalog of 100 works selected by Greub for an upcoming traveling exhibition. Succinctly informative introductory essays by the museum's curators precede the detailed scholarly entries, authoritatively written by acknowledged experts. Although this book does not provide survey coverage of the regions named in the title and the color photos would have been more impressively presented if printed on glossier paper, the scholarly text and remarkable objects displayed highly recommend it for general art collections and academic libraries.
