Extension of University Teaching in England and America: A Study in Practical Pedagogics (Classic Reprint)

This book explores the rise of university extension programs in England and America during the Victorian era, tracing their origins and development alongside the growth of democratic ideals. The author, James E. Russell, provides a thorough analysis of the challenges and opportunities faced by these programs as they sought to extend educational opportunities beyond traditional academic institutions. The book delves into the philosophical underpinnings of university extension, examining its role in promoting social justice and fostering a more informed citizenry amidst rapid societal change. Russell argues that these programs played a crucial role in democratizing education and bridging the gap between academia and the general public, contributing significantly to the evolution of educational thought and practice in the late 19th century.
