He holds the BSc (Engineering) Degree from the Banaras Hindu University, a Masters Degree from the IIS, Bangalore and a PhD from the Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA. Hi training in large rotating machinery and transformer engineering was a the factories of Hitachi in Japan. He has held faculty positions at various reputed universities in India, Lehigh and the Royal Military College of Canada.
