Extra Spatial

What is the relationship between people, technology and the spaces we live and work in? Prestigious, forward-thinking international design firm IDEO consistently addresses that question with intelligence, empathy, and some of the most innovative spatial projects around. The first book devoted to their cutting-edge work in environments, Extra Spatial demonstrates their unique vision with dozens of case studies of recent projects. A brilliant array of solutions address the needs of such clients as Hewlett-Packard, Amtrak, Sun Microsystems, Prada, the Museum of Modern Art, and hundreds more. IDEO specializes in designing highly innovative spaces, services, and products to delight and enable users, in response to rigorous observation of how people interact with their environments. For Prada's New York store, for example, they created the invisible technology that orchestrates a futuristic shopping experience, including video-based "mirrors" that allow customers to see their lingering images from various angles. Numerous photographs and illustrations help convey the IDEO observation and design process.
