Broadsheet, 390 x 255 mm. worn and creased. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. Originally created by two brothers, Samuel and Robert Baylies and their sister Anne in 1732, Baylies's Charity is now named Baylies Educational Foundation and helps to support education in Dudley. The Baylies were prominent citizens in Dudley and wished to create a school for boys in the town. This school was built in Pease Lane (what is now Tower Street) and then rebuilt in 1823. The building still exists today and can be recognised by the statues of two pupils in their distinctive blue coats in niches on the front of the building. At this point [c. 1830], there seems to have been some concern over the running of the charity and several assurances are given in this report that matters will be taken in hand.
