About this Item

Hall was a Royal Navy officer who fought through much of the Napoleonic Wars and subsequently carried out a variety of exploration and research voyages for the Service. Hall sailed between 1820 and 1823 aboard HMS Conway to South America and his journals form this work. The book was published in two parts, both parts are here bound in a single volume. vi, 78pp and iv, 80pp (two parts). Three-quarters bound in calf with marbled paper to remainder. Spine has four raised bands and a burgundy morocco title plate with gilt lettering. Corners of calf heavily rubbed with minor rubbing elsewhere. There is a small surface tear to the leather of the rear upper corner. Surface of paper on boards is rubbed. There is some staining at the corners of the pastedowns from the calf fixing. There are contemporary faded notes to the title page. Pages are printed in double-column layout. Pages and text-block are in very good condition.
