A collection of letters and journal entries by the Quaker, Daniel Wheeler. With additional material by Charles Wheeler. Daniel Wheeler (1771 - 1840) was a Quaker and a missionary. Wheeler went to St Petersburg as agricultural adviser to tsar Alexander I and helped with the draining of marshes; he later spent four years sailing the South Seas as a missionary. This volume contains extracts from Wheeler's letters and journals from his time in the South Pacific. In full cloth binding. Externally, worn. Significant loss to the spine. Splits to the front and rear joints. Bumping and rubbing to the joints, boards and extremities. There is an ink inscription to the front free endpaper and the front blank endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound, with two pages at the beginning of the volume have not been bound at the top. Pages are generally clean, with the odd spot, as usual. Fair.
