Fall in love with the amazing lenses that help us see
So many of us wear glasses. They help us read, work and play. They are for the young and old, for bookworms and professional athletes, and are used by people in every country around the world.
Learn how glasses bend light and what color blindness really means. How tears work and why we have eyelids. Learn all about the human eye, and about the extraordinary vision of cats, birds and flies. Take a tour through the long history of eyeglasses and learn about optical illusions, 3-D glasses and why pandas seem to be wearing spectacles.
Packed with fun comics, puzzles and games, Extraordinary Eyeglasses will help young readers understand how wearing glasses is like having a superpower!
Caroline Stevan has been nearsighted since childhood and considers glasses to be one of mankind's greatest inventions. She is a journalist at the Swiss radio and television and passionate about social issues, she co-hosts the program Le Point J. She has two daughters, one of whom proudly wears glasses. Extraordinary Eyeglasses is her fourth book published by Helvetiq, following Blablacar, la France et moi, Be my quarantine and Citizen She!.
François Vigneault is a cartoonist and illustrator born in the United States to Haitian and French-Canadian parents. He is the co-creator of the YA graphic novel 13e Avenue published by Éditions de la Pastèque in 2018 and the comic book series Orcs in Space from Oni Press (2021—22). His relatively small body of work has been nominated for a surprising number of awards (including the the Joe Shuster Award and the Bédélys Québec Award) and has even won a few of them, including the inaugural Québec Bookseller's Prize for best youth graphic novel. He started wearing glasses when he was 12 years old. He grew up in San Diego, California and lived in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon before landing in Québec in 2015, where he has lived ever since.
