Zijn tekeningen maar vooral zijn gravures verwerven snel grote faam. Hij werkt samen met literaire reuzen als Baudelaire, Mallarm� en Verlaine.
Uiteindelijk gaat hij de geschiedenis in als de grootste 19de-eeuwse verbeelder van onverbloemde erotiek. In dit boek is een prachtige reeks van deze intrigerende prenten bijeengebracht.
