Synopsis
Who's FAMOUS at your STATION was originally "Stars on the Tube". The content is still the same; it's just the title and cover that has changed.
London always has been full of famous people and caricaturist/illustrator Simon Ellinas saw the London Underground tube map as a unique way of mapping out where these celebrities have lived, worked or played in and around London.
During the first Lockdown in 2020 he drew caricature portraits of 272 personalities all connected in some way to every single London Underground station. The book is designed line by line, starting with the Bakerloo line up to the Victoria line and contains a short bio and explanatory text for each celebrity.
The London Transport underground system consists of ten original lines, Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith and City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria. These tube networks serve many of the major parts of London with all its famous landmarks and history stretching outwards from the central area out to the suburbs. Every single area has had associations with great people from every field. Showbusiness, sports, politics, science, technology, music, literature and the arts. They were either born near the stations or lived there for a while. Talk show host Jerry Springer was actually born in a London Underground station. Buy the book to find out which one!
Simon Ellinas has been drawing people since he could hold a pen and spent most of his school/college days doing just that. Born in Clapham, South London and raised in Hendon, North London, he now lives and works in Barnet (all on the Northern Line). As a professional cartoonist, caricaturist and illustrator he has worked for many major publications, websites and companies throughout his career. The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The Week, The News of the World and The Daily Mail, to name just a few.
Who's FAMOUS at your STATION? makes a very unique and absorbing souvenir of one of the world's great capital cities. A great gift for all fans of London and those interested in the art of caricature illustration.
