First published in 1853 in America, this 1854 edition published in London contains the First and Second Series of tales. This very good condition hardback (320pp) is bound in its original, plain brown cloth with gilt title to spine. Apart from the worn corner points and slight fading the cover is in remarkably VG condition Plain end-papers (no inscription) and firmly sewn with nothing loose or marked apart from normal aging of the white, non-foxed paper. An important author and journalist, a proto-feminist who rejected her husbands' surnames by wishing to use Fanny Fern. An original character in early American women's literary history. Still very readable. This particular edition seems not to be held by British Library. A very nice copy, preserved in a contemporary cloth binding. 20% price reduction now applied.
