A rather extensive treatment of both the ferret and the rat (the author breeds and trains ferrets as rat hunters), including "Rat History," "Unabridged Bill of Fare," "Ferocity", "Rats in Breweries, Slaughter Houses, Markets, Stables and Barnyards," "Rats as Wine Drinkers," "The Rat's Musical Talents and Eyesight," "Rats as Food," etc. 67+(5) pages with a few woodcut illustrations. The five end pages are devoted to the author's business of rat and pest extermination, including his "Sure Pop" paste for rats mice and roaches, his "Sure Pop" insect powder for lice, roaches, bed bugs, fleas, scorpions and the like, and finally his "Sure Pop" insect powder bellows patented in 1884. The author, Mr. "Sure Pop" himself, works both sides of the street, both promoting his pastes and powders for rat control, but also boosting his business in raising ferrets for sale for those who might prefer ferrets to powders (Note the illustration on the rear wrap of a ferret attacking a rat.) Good condition, with some chipping to head and heel of the spine and along edges of the front wrap. Internally clean, no owner names. Seller Inventory # 023275
