The author selects 50 fights from real life and fiction. Among them are the two great fights between Tom Cribb and Tom Molineaux in 1810 and 1811, the meeting between Tom Sayers and John Heenan (1860), the encounter between Mr Pickwick and the cabman (from "Pickwick Papers", by Charles Dickens), and the final reckoning between Moby Dick and Captain Ahab (from "Moby Dick", by Herman Melville). An excellent collection, originally published 1932. Second edition. 8vo. xii + 384pp. Black cloth. Dust-wrapper, sl chipped at edges and head of spine.
