Fifty/Fifty started as a simple adventure-a curious drive along the Lincoln Highway. The heroine had to be in trouble to justify a prudent man's rescue. The girl had to have some mystery to justify his continued interest. After that, as happens all too often, the Highway and the Girl captured the story, turning the adventure into a racy thriller. The planned holiday of Judge Harold J. Hudson became a chase across the western U.S., pursued by unknown antagonists. The Judge and his companion were forced to rely more and more on each other until the culmination of the misadventure became the culmination of the relationship.
