The colorful pages contain accurate and pertinent information along with clear, full-color photographs, drawings, and charts. Most chapters include helpful "angler's hints." Practical and necessary safety considerations are noted throughout. Illustrations of and information about fresh and salt-water fish appear on the endpapers. Gr. 4-6. This large-format volume from the British series Hobby Handbooks explains the sport of fishing and how it differs in still waters, rivers, and ocean surf, and when done from boats. Sharply focused, full-color photographs show the equipment and the process of fishing, while colorful diagrams demonstrate the basics, such as how to bait a hook, cast, attach weights to a line, and unhook a fish. The "angler's hint" sections throughout the book give suggestions that will help young people experienced in fishing as well as beginners. Despite its British origins, this volume will be useful in North American collections. Carolyn Phelan
