A large, black cloth, hardback book, with stunning gilt designs on front board, beautiful gilt title run along the spine. This wonderful book is in fabulous condition, looks like its hardly been used or read. Comes with decorative gilt coloured box slipcase. Normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. 336 pages all intact, nice tight binding. All pages, text and illustrations are in really good, clean, readable order. Binding: the design is based on a combined nocturnal, lunar volvelle and Rojas projection, made in Rome by A. Leonae, 1589. (National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.)
