Octavo, cloth. First printing in book form. A hardbound reprint of the first eight issues published from March 1972 (number 1) through March 1974 (number 8). The major British scholarly journal. In addition to the long-running essay series, "The Profession of Science Fiction," FOUNDATION has published a substantial body of critical essays and book reviews (the journal is a major contemporary source for the latter). The reviews "contain some of the most perceptive and well-written criticism appearing anywhere." - Tymn and Ashley (eds), Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Weird Fiction Magazines, p. 825. "Britain's major SF journal, usually lively and frequently downright bloody-minded." - Anatomy of Wonder (1995) 12-22. The early issues are virtually unobtainable in original format and the Gregg Press reprint edition is now nearly as difficult to find as the original issues. A very good copy. (#175368).
