Although this volume only covers 13 years of Mary Baker Eddy's life and the founding of her church, what productive years they were! Her trial and triumph in Chicago where she gave the sermon "Science and the Senses" resulted in the instantaneous healing of 13 people and was a turning point in the acceptance of Christian Science as a practical, healing religion. Mrs. Eddy moved to her new home in Concord, New Hampshire—her beloved "Pleasant View." Final changes were made on a major revision (50th) of her textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. She published many of her other writings during this period — Pulpit and Press, Miscellaneous Writings, Christ and Christmas, her Church Manual — as well as starting the Christian Science Weekly, later renamed the Sentinel. The church was reorganized and the original edifice of the Mother Church was erected and services commenced. Loyal students have attested to the remarkable demonstrations over every conceivable obstacle that were made during this time, events sure to inspire the reader. Yet, even as the church rose to prominence, Mrs. Eddy, at the height of her prosperity, ceased teaching classes.
