First Edition, No. 23 of 165 copies, signed by Marsh. 1 vols. Sm 8vo. One of 165 Copies, Signed. Writer, art patron, erstwhile private secretary to Winston Churchill, "Eddie" Marsh (1872-1953) was a man of many parts, and his witty translations of Fontaine, done into rhymed English verse, were widely appreciated. In 1931 Heinemann published Marsh's translation of all of Fontaine's fables in two volumes, illustrated with 26 copperplate engravings by Stephen Gooden, and in 1933 a final revision of this exceptional work. Original pale blue paper boards, parchment paper spine, covers slightly soiled, light discoloration to half title and final page, else near fine. With the large armorial bookplate of the Ramsden family on the front pastedown First Edition, No. 23 of 165 copies, signed by Marsh. Bookseller Inventory # 13684
