Fables Obscura

Against a dynamic backdrop of historical events and figures, Peter Prizel weaves a series of absurdist, fantastical stories about humanity and reimagining the past.

Here are sentient tanks, jingoistic cured meats, and lovelorn statues. Newton, Pushkin, Einstein, and the ghosts of Beethoven and Pablo Escobar grapple with their dreams and failings and complex legacies; while a bear searches for equality, circus clowns foment insurrection, and an iguana incites a revolt. From frigid Siberia to historic Cordoba Spain to the booming metropolis of Taipei, Fables Obscura is an astonishing collection of surrealist tales told with humor, tenderness, and mesmerizing wit.

Peter Prizel is an end-of-life care social worker. He recently received his MFA from Manhattanville College.
