Face Time

Patrick de Wilde has photographed thousands of men and women on five continents over the past twenty-five years; Face Time collects the most compelling of these emotional portraits, noted for the clarity and directness with which he portrays the person on the other side of the lens. Rather than seeking to point out obvious cultural differences, de Wilde’s images highlight the commonality and unity of the world’s population. Along with quotations from philosophers, sociologists, and writers on the essential qualities of humans, these photographs seek to position all individuals within the context of a unified whole – humanity.

Born in Lille in 1949, Patrick de Wilde is a photojournalist, art director of the Marie-Claire group, director of the De Wilde studio, and collection director at Editions Atlas. He has also been editor-in-chief of the magazine L’Expansion Voyages and an editor of Voyages d’Affaires, Tour Hebdo, and Jeune Afrique. In the past twenty years he has contributed to Grands Reportages, BBC Wildlife, and Géo.
