Illustrated and accessible, this atlas examines more than 30 separate nations and regions from around the world, including details of flags, coins and original artwork. It also contains quiz questions with references to the maps and text throughout the book.

This updated atlas for the elementary- through junior-high-age student goes from a global perspective to the various continents and then to specific countries or regions within the continent. The opening section, "Our Planet Earth," offers various maps that show the diversity of the world and prepares the reader to appreciate the individual continents and their unique features.Sections on the continents begin with geographic and political maps of the areas covered. Each regional or country map shows major cities as well as any city that is referred to in the text. Every map has insets that contain a locator map, the height of the landmass, and a scale legend. The level of detail in the maps provides more information than can be found in some other atlases for children. Additional material includes statistics; quiz or puzzle questions; representations of flags, postage stamps, and coinage; and sidebars highlighting aspects of history or culture. The Facts On File Children's Atlas is recommended as an update for older volumes that lack the political changes in recent years. Its inviting format should appeal to children in school and public libraries. RBB
